The clinical team of Rays of Hope Hospice Jinja together with Margrethe Juncker, volunteer medical doctor from FORO, train community volunteers in how to identify patients in need of palliative care and in how to follow up care once the client is enrolled and treatment has been started. This is done to improve the care and support given to very sick patients in between Hospice Jinja visits.
Whenever possible people who themselves are or have been clients of Rays of Hope Hospice Jinja are being used as community volunteers. They have themselves experienced the physical and social pain of disease and thus better understand the needs of the client.
FORO supports this cost effective way of meeting the patients’ needs and improving their care while actively involving members in the local community.
