What We Do

FORO is focused on providing a holistic approach to the medical and social needs of the people we serve. We make sure our partners are empowered by creating opportunities for individuals and communities. We provide support in the following areas:

  • Home-based palliative care and support for people living with advanced cancer and severe HIV/AIDS

  • Preventative care for cervical and breast cancer

  • Improving access to needed diagnosis and treatment of life-limiting diseases

  • Facilitating needed treatment for those living in absolute poverty

  • Capacity building of local medical professionals

  • Education, social and emotional support for young clients and children affected by disease.

FORO currently supports Rays of Hope Hospice Jinja in providing home-based palliative care in the rural districts of the Busoga Region in Uganda. A team of clinicians and social workers make regular, pre-scheduled visits to patients in their homes - providing pain and symptomatic treatment as well as counselling and social support when needed.

Rays of Hope Hospice Jinja works closely with government health centers and hospitals in the Busoga Region, local non-governmental organizations  and the Uganda Cancer Institute at Mulago Hospital in Kampala.

Fortunately, with the right kind of treatment many lives can be saved. The poor and sick people in the countryside have little or no access to such treatment because of lack of finances. We believe it is a human right to have access to life-saving treatment and for very little money (average $200 per patient) many are now able to get the treatment they so desperately need.  So many lives have been saved and so many children have not lost their parents. Cancer patients, and those with advanced HIV/AIDS now have hope again in their hearts.

With the help of your kind support, we could reach so many more who need our help!
